CurriculumOur Lady of the Lakes School has a curriculum that encompasses the core subjects of reading, writing, mathematics, social studies, science, spelling, phonics and religion. Specialist teachers are employed in music (1 day per week) and computer/technology (1 days per week). Class sizes are kept small to ensure optimum teacher to student ratio.
Student population dictates the number of aides employed by the school. These aides work in the kindergarten and pre-school, as well as with small groups of students for individualized instruction in any subject area deemed necessary by the teacher, for grades one through six.
Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Grade School works in cooperation with the Archdiocese of Milwaukee to develop and maintain strict academic standards that not only coincide with the state standards, but also uphold the high standards traditionally associated with a Catholic education. The school prides itself on its integration of the faith into all curricular areas.
We are very fortunate at Our Lady of the Lakes School to have co-pastors, Fr. Dick Fleischman and Fr. Guy Gurath. They provide the weekly school Mass, and they also take part in special ceremonies throughout the school year.
All teachers and administrators are required to continue with their education in order to maintain their licenses. Teachers at the school are also required to maintain a Religious Education Certification and keep it current. The teachers incorporate new education concepts along with the tried and proven ones into their classroom learning experiences.
Every year third and fifth grade students from Our Lady of the Lakes School are given the Iowa Basics test. This score indicates that our students receive a quality education that prepares them well for the future.
Grades 3, 4, 5 and 6 students are in multi-aged classes. This allows for the students to prepare for the middle school by adapting to more than one teacher, needing to be organized and becoming more accountable. Having the same teacher for two years, will benefit them in all subject areas, and strengthens all of their skills. Having the same religion teacher for two years strengthens their Catholic faith. Our children truly develop their faith, which remains with them forever.
